Everyone seems to be arguing. One glance at Facebook demonstrates how comments quickly turn toxic. So how can libraries make a difference? Can we create a space where people will both talk and listen? In 2016, the Poudre River Public Library District partnered with the Fort Collins Human Resources Commission to present four community forums on issues about diversity in our community. These conversations were complicated, controversial, and far from perfect, but they need to happen in more libraries throughout Colorado. Listen to our story and bring your own thoughts to share in the chat aboutĀ how libraries can cultivate positive conversations within their community.

Facilitator: Rebecca Strein

Rebecca has worked in an academic library, an archive, and for the past few years in public libraries. All of her experiences at libraries have continued to fuel her passion for helping her community through providing access to information in a variety of ways.Ā  While interning at the Poudre River Public Library, she had the opportunity to assist with community discussions at the library and now wants to share how valuable they are. She has received her MLIS from the University of Alabama (2016) and is currently working on a masterā€™s degree in Literacy from the University of Northern Colorado.
