Brought to you by NAMI Colorado, In Our Own Voice provides a personal perspective of mental health conditions as leaders with lived experience talk openly about what it’s like to have a mental health condition.
This presentation provides:
- An opportunity to hear open and honest perspectives on a highly misunderstood topic.
- A chance to ask leaders questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispelling of stereotypes and misconceptions.
- The understanding that people with mental health conditions have lives enriched by hopes, dreams and goals.
- Information on how to connect with NAMI to connect people in your community with resources.
About the presenters
Athena Kabylafkas decided after battling, surviving and thriving with a mental health condition in her own life, she wanted to give back. She became a volunteer with NAMI Colorado in 2017. She then became part of the staff, a NAMI Connection State Trainer and Facilitator, a In Our Own Voice Presenter and a Certified Recovery Coach. She also created a holistic mental wellness program, that assisted her in getting on track with her own recovery. She is now dedicated to encouraging individuals with their own road to mental health recovery.
Kristin Jones is the Associate Program Director for NAMI Colorado and strives to bring advocacy into her work daily. She is an IOOV speaker, Connections Facilitator, Peer to Peer Leader, and enjoys speaking at Crisis Intervention Team trainings for police and security officers. She is bringing NAMI programs into the criminal justice system where mental health education and support are often lacking. Kristin loves to travel, is an avid scuba diver and enjoys her first love which is skiing in beautiful Colorado.
