  • Are you running out of ideas for online programming?
  • Is your public tired of virtual events?
  • Cooped up inside, we’re missing the restorative powers of the great outdoors!

Join us for a lively, interactive session that will not only discuss the benefits of outdoor programming (yes, even in winter!), but will also share plenty of great ideas to help you embrace winter by offering new programs in your community.

Ideas to be shared include: Winter StoryWalks, Scavenger Hunts, Outdoor challenges (Who can make the best snow art?), Citizen Science, Nature Play, new collections (Snowshoes, anyone?), and more.

Throughout, we’ll highlight how outdoor winter programs can be done safely, for both
staff and patrons; and how community partnerships can lessen the load, enabling you and your staff to do more.

Beth is the Youth & Family Services Consultant for the Colorado State Library. She is passionate about equitable library service (ask me about eliminating overdue fines!), empowering teens, and creating engaging experiences and spaces for kids of all ages.

Dr. Noah Lenstra started Let’s Move in Libraries in 2016 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s School of Education, where he is an assistant professor of library and information science. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, and in June 2020, his book Healthy Living at the Library was published by Libraries Unlimited. In September 2020 he had the privilege of being the keynote speaker at Public Library Victoria’s Fall Symposium “Leap from the Page: Libraries promoting healthy lifestyles.” He is an active member of the Association for Rural and Small Libraries and the Public Library Association. He earned his dissertation in 2016 from the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science.

Maryann Mori has presented on a variety of topics at several national library conferences including ALA, ARSL, ALSC, PLA, and The Internet Librarian. She has also been published numerous times in professional journals and books, writing about such topics as teen services, library volunteers, job-related stress, and programming. Formerly Teen Specialist Librarian for the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (Indiana) and Director of Waukee Public Library (Iowa), Mori is currently a library consultant for the State Library of Iowa.  She completed her MSLIS from the University of Illinois in 2006. In her spare time, she works part-time in a local bike shop and rides any one of her dozen or so bicycles (even in winter!).
