Learn how the Children’s Librarians at Denver Public Library are expanding their services to developing readers and the grown ups in their lives using the five Grade Level Reading Skills. Selecting, cataloging, and shelving books for developing readers presents a number of unique challenges. We’ll talk about ways DPL has evaluated and enhanced their collection to make developing reader titles more accessible. Information on DPL’s recent diversity audit will be shared.

Facilitators: Amy Forrester & Sarah Dutelle

Amy Forrester is a Children’s Librarian at the Denver Public Library. She thinks it’s an especially fascinating twist of fate that she’s become so passionate about materials and services for developing readers because she didn’t read until she was 9. In addition to working on DPL’s Grade Level Reading Team, Amy served on the 2016 Geisel Award Committee and is a co-host for Guessing Geisel, a mock blog.

Sarah Dutelle is the Children’s Collection Specialist for the Denver Public Library, responsible for selecting and purchasing (almost) all of the materials (in English and Spanish!) for those birth-18. She has been with the Denver Public Library since 2006, having worked as a Children’s Librarian and a floating librarian prior to her current position. She earned her MLIS from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 2004.
