Cultural humility is a framework that has the promise to bring hope and change to our libraries.

Part I – May 28, 2024 from 10-11 AM

In the first session, library employees will learn about cultural humility as an approach framework to improving libraries. Take part in this workshop and learn how to define cultural humility and strategies to apply cultural humility to the library’s work. Participate to raise your awareness of cultural humility as a practice with the potential to meaningfully engage in lifelong learning and community connections.

Part II – June 4, 2024 from 10-12 PM

Cultural humility can operate on two levels: the interpersonal level for individuals and systems level for organizations. In the second session, participants will learn how cultural humility might be operationalized at the interpersonal level in libraries among colleagues and patrons.

Participants will focus on their role as a colleague and will link concepts of cultural humility to library work. This workshop will use active learning strategies such as breakout rooms and think + write exercises to explore cultural humility.

  • Registration is required. Interested participants will need to register with Christine Kreger directly by sending an email to kreger_c@cde.state.co.us.
  • Participants are required to attend both sessions on May 28 & June 4.
  • Space for the Zoom class is limited to 24 and is reserved for Colorado library staff only.
  • Due to anticipated demand, the Zoom class will be limited to 3 individuals per library organization. (We will maintain a wait list for cancellations)
  • To allow for open dialogue, the Zoom class will not be recorded.
